Being situated on the Moray Firth there are lots of habitats to explore in and around Nairn. Culbin Forest is a rare example of dune stabilisation. The shore line is a maze of habitats and the firth itself is home to creatures which live both over and under it. The coast is full of variety and life for you to enjoy.

Prominent among the many other attractions around Nairn are three famous castles - Cawdor Castle, Brodie Castle, and Castle Stuart - each with its own story to tell.

Another tale is told at nearby Culloden, the battlefield that witnessed the final defeat of the Jacobite rising. Fort George, just along the coast, was built after that battle to ensure that there was no further trouble from the Highlanders.


HISTORY & ARCHITECTURE

nairn - museum interiorMuch earlier history is also represented locally, most famously by the Clava Cairns dating from the early bronze age. Nairn also has two fine museums. They can tell you nearly everything there is to know about Nairn's past. A statue of the famous Doctor Grigor welcomes you to Nairn Museum which is located in the Georgian Mansion of Viewfield. Down in the Fishertown, the Fishertown Museum recalls the story of the fishing industry and a way of life lost forever.


ACTIVITIES

There is plenty of scope for sport in Nairn with two championship golf courses, a sports centre, two swimming pools, a riding centre, watersports, cricket, bowls and much more. For those wanting to camp or caravan there are sites in and around Nairn.

The town has a busy programme of events both as regular entertainment and special events. These have included the Harbourfest and each year there is the Nairn Gala Week in July and the Nairn Highland Games in August.
