Handmade and Thrown Pottery from Cromarty in the Highlands of Scotland
Cromarty is a superbly preserved 18th century town at the tip of the Black Isle, 20 miles north of Inverness (see Black Isle map. The town's wonderful range of traditional fishermen's cottages, and superb Georgian merchant's houses has led to its being described as 'the jewel in the crown of Scottish vernacular architecture'. Despite its northern latitude, the Black Isle is one of the driest places in Britain, and it's rich rolling farmland enjoys excellent summer weather and very mild winters. There are many other attractions in the area including the award winning Cromarty Courthouse Museum, the popular Ecoventures boat trips to see the Moray Firth Dolphins, and the recently developed and challenging Mountain Biking trails at Learnie, only 4 miles from the town. Cromarty is also an excellent base from which to tour the Highlands. For those of you not driving, there is a regular bus service travelling between Inverness and Cromarty (note that this service does not run on Sundays). Inverness may be reached easily from all parts of the country by train or coach, and there are regular flights to Inverness from many UK airports, including London Gatwick and Luton |
