Craft-makers' showcase at Timespan
FIVE contemporary craft-makers from the central belt and the Highland and Islands will feature in a new exhibition being staged at Timespan in Helmsdale.
From May 21, the centre will host craftscotland’s Meet Your Maker – an exhibition that showcases not only craft but also the makers themselves.
There will be a range of disciplines on display including weaving, ceramics, jewellery and bookbinding from Joan Baxter, Leah Black, Jilli Blackwood, Frances Priest and Laura West.
Following its successful launch at the National Museum of Scotland in February, Meet Your Maker takes audiences behind the scenes of the creative making process.
Makers’ work will be on display, as well as items such as sketchbooks, tools, studio pin-boards and video for members of the public to explore.
This insight into the creative processes and the craftmakers behind the work, also seen in programmes such as BBC Two’s Mastercrafts, has received fantastic feedback from audiences.
The exhibition at Timespan also brings makers into the gallery space for visitors to meet and speak to about their work, and visitors will have the opportunity to influence the creation of pieces themselves.
A programme of complimentary workshops and activities will also run at Timespan and in the surrounding area for the duration of the five-week exhibition.
