Nairn postie in online walking guide

14 May 2010

A NAIRN postman is representing Scotland in a new online walking guide.
Hugh McBean treats viewers to the delights of his home town which he takes in every day on the course of his postal walk, ranging from the town’s beaches, to its harbour to the historic Cawdor Castle and the Nairnshire countryside.
It is part of a First Class Walking Guide, an online video showcasing some of the best walks across the UK, produced by Royal Mail postmen and women.
“It’s been a great experience to make the film and having the chance to sing the praises of Nairn and all the beautiful walks people can enjoy around the town,” Hugh said. “Hopefully it will help encourage more tourists to come and visit Nairn this summer.”
The nation’s posties walk approximately 180 million miles every year, giving them unparalleled local knowledge, according to the Royal Mail which came up with the idea for the video.
Hugh joins four other postal workers on their routes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
