Some people think that a domain’s expiry date can affect Google rankings and that a domain that has been registered for several years in advance will rank higher than a domain that is renewed annually. Google have denied this, and confirm via their webmaster tools system that, despite there being a patent relating to domain expiry and SEO, a domains expiry date won’t really affect your google rankings.  Watch Google’s Webmaster video on Youtube.

Calico’s policy is to automatically renew a domain annually before the expiry date, to ensure continuity and the security of your domain ownership. We’ll always do that for you unless you tell us not to. That’s why it’s important to give us advanced notice if you’re going to cancel a domain, rather than waiting until after we’ve renewed it.

However, if you do want your domain registered for more than one year (eg for convenience) we can do this for some domain endings and we can offer a discount when you do. It’s possible to extend the registration of any of the .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz domain names that you host with us, for up to a maximum of ten years. We offer a 10% discount for renewal periods of three or more years. If you’d like to discuss this further, please call our team on 01381 600580 or email [email protected].
