Gillyflowers: A warm greeting from your hosts, Felix and Louise McGgunnigle awaits you as you arrive at Gillyflowers. In the dining room, relax with tea or coffee whilst reading the many books, leaflets and maps available for you to plan your stay. Internet access is available on request

Some people come because they want to sample the beauty of the Highlands, some to absorb the ancient history, and some to see the reclusive Nessie. But everyone enjoys the hospitality and friendly atmosphere created by Felix and Louise McGgunnigle at Gillyflowers. The house called Gillyflowers was built in the 1700's, around the time that Charles Edward Stewart was stirring up trouble in the Highlands, and it has been lived in continuously ever since. It has, of course, been changed somewhat and we now have glass in the windows and central heating throughout!

Cyclists/Walkers: Somewhere safe to store your bike, somewhere warm to dry your clothes, a deep, hot bath, a comfortable bed and a full breakfast in the morning - what more could you want? Gillyflowers is perfectly located to serve walkers and cyclists on the Great Glen Way, among many more cycling and walking routes around Drumnadrochit and Inverness. Either a stop on your route or a place to stop for a while Gillyflowers - for your comfort, relaxation and enjoyment.

Situation: Gillyflowers is situated in the village of Drumnadrochit, (called "Drum" for short) which is the centre of the Loch Ness monster mystique. It has many visitor attractions, shops and restaurants. Gillyflowers is also close to the ruins of Urquhart Castle which overlooks the loch and is the prime site for sightings of Nessie. Turn left out of Gillyflowers, past the old burial grounds and take the woodland walk. (See map below.) You can walk down to Loch Ness in about ten minutes.

Urquhart Woods

Drum is in a very central location and places like Ullapool, (for wonderful seafood) Plockton, (reputed to be be Scotland's most beautiful village), Eilean Donan Castle, (where the Highlander movies were filmed) and The Isle of Skye are all within a days drive there and back. Be sure to ask Felix to tell you about the best routes so that you don't miss anything. He's a great tour guide! You can also ask Felix about some of the beautiful scenic walking routes nearby, such as Glen Affric and Glen Strathfarrar. They are both less than a thirty minute drive away.

If you're tired of driving and don't want to walk, you can hire a bike in the village. If horseback riding is your thing, then you can go riding at Borlum Farm, one of Scotland's best riding centres. There is a superb golf course approx. 10 miles out of the village on the way to Inverness. Bicycles are for hire in the village and boat trips on the Loch are also available. Loch Ness Fishing is organised in the village, though, be careful what you catch!

Eating Places: Drum has good restaurants which are within easy walking distance and an excellent real ale pub with excellent food is just 2 minutes walk.
