* * Warning re Scams and Phishing * *
Despite our recent warnings we're aware that some customers have fallen foul of renewal scams relating to their domains. We'd like to re-iterate the fact that Calico UK will automatically renew your domain name as that becomes due, so you don't have to worry about it's security.

If you receive any post or emails relating to your domain renewal that doesn't refer to us then please ignore this.

All customers will at some point receive an email from Nominet or Enom requesting that they verify that their contact details are correct for Whois entries. Nominet and Enom are the top level registry companies that we are members of. We use them for domain registrations. If you receive any emails asking you to enter personal details, please treat this as spam email. If you have any queries whatsoever please contact our team.

Do you find that junk email is a problem for you - if so there are a couple of options you might want to consider.
  • All accounts include a catchall facility by default, so that no matter what the sender puts before the @ in the email address, that email still comes through to you. If you're receiving mail addressed to made up addresses on your domain name eg to ahasdlh@, or tomm@ or dik@ or hary@, etc then you may wish to remove that.
  • If that's not the issue and you still receive lots of junk mail, we do have a bolt on service that filters junk for you. If you sign up for this service during November we'll be offering a discounted rate on that, normally £36 + VAT pa we'll let you have that at a credit crunch busting half price - £18 + VAT pa.

If you'd like to sign up, give us a call and quote that you've seen the reduction in our newsletter. Note this applies to new signups, and for the first year of service only.

We had another call from one of our customers this week whose hard drive had crashed and had lost all emails and email addresses, and was asking if we could help.

We managed to retrieve a few recent emails, and a list of recently used email addresses, but that was all. All her other correspondence and lots of other email addresses were lost. It was unfortunate, but it could have been avoided.

We do offer a backup service called Criticali (see http://www.criticali.co.uk) which allows you to back up your key data over the Internet to two duplicating servers. The data is encrypted before it is sent, so it is secure. And it's stored on two servers for additional safety. If you want a 30-day free trial of the service, please visit http://www.criticali.co.uk/freetrial.asp or give us a call.

If you have any queries about anything in this newsletter or our services in general please do contact our helpdesk.
