Calico UK anual setup instructions for dialup networking

Windows 95-98

Ensure that Windows Dial Up Networking is installed on your machine.

If you need to install go to:

Control Panel - Add Remove Programs - Windows Setup- Communications - Dial Up Networking

Open Dial Up Networking and click "Make New Connection"
There will be a short description of what Dial Up Networking does. Click on "Next". 

Type a name for the service you are dialing (Calico UK). Click on "Next". 

Add phone number 0845 662 1309 (for most modems and ISDN).

Type the number completely, including the area code in the telephone number box. 
Ignore the area code box.

Click on "Next". 

You have successfully created a Dial Up Networking connection called Calico UK .

Click on "Finish". 

A Calico UK icon will have been created in Dial Up Networking.

You can now complete the final setup of your Internet connection. 

Select the Calico UK icon by right clicking on it with your mouse and choose the Properties option from the menu. 

Untick the "Use country code and area code" box. 

Check that you have the whole telephone number, including the area code, in the telephone number box.

Choose the "Server Types" tab from the top of the screen. 

Check that the Dial Up server type box is "PPP, Internet etc".

There are six tickable boxes on your screen. 

Make sure the only one ticked is "TCP/IP', the bottom option, -- untick any others.

Click on "TCP/IP settings".

Check the bullets are selected for:

"Server assigned address" and 

"Server assigned name server addresses".

Tick the bottom 2 boxes:

"Use IP Header Compression"

"Use Default Gateway"

Click on OK and you will return to the icon in Dial Up Networking.

Double left click on the icon.

A "Connect to" box will open on your screen.

Add the username: calico 

Add the password: login 

(Remember everything is case sensitive, so type it exactly.) 

Click on the "Connect" button to test your connection.

Once connected you can start any Internet application such as your browser.

You can now also select to dial this connection automatically using Microsoft Explorer's "Connection" tab. 

 

Windows NT4 

 
To set up your dial up connection in NT4 double-click the My Computer icon or go to Start, Programs, Accessories and Dial Up Networking. 

Click on "Dial Up Networking". 

Click "New".

Name the new phonebook entry: Calico UK

Click "Next".

Check "I am calling the Internet"

Check "Send my plain text password"

Click "Next".

Add the phone number 0845 662 1309 (for most modems and ISDN).

Click "Finish".

Select your Calico UK address book entry

Click "More". 

Select "Edit entry and modem properties". 

Select the "Server" tab. 

Check that the Dial Up server type box is "PPP Internet etc".

There are 5 other boxes. 

Make sure the only one selected is "TCP/IP", the top option, -- untick any others.

Click on "TCP/IP settings".

Check the bullets are selected for:

"Server assigned address"

"Server assigned name server addresses"

Tick the bottom 2 boxes:

"Use IP Header compression"

"Use Default Gateway"

Click on OK. 

To connect click on "Dial". 

Add the username: scot 

Add the password: free 
(Remember everything is case sensitive, so type it exactly). 

Leave the Domain box empty.

Click on the "Connect" button to test your connection. 

Once connected you can start any Internet application such as your browser.

You can now also select to dial this connection automatically using Microsoft Explorer's "Connection" tab.
