One of the most popular website design systems is WordPress. This free CMS gives designers a rich choice of plugins and themes they can use for their sites. For this WhyWordPress blog we looked at kcdc.co.uk and why they opted to use the software:
Kingussie Community Development Company (KCDC) is a charity formed to carry out and promote activities for the benefit of Kingussie. In particular KCDC owns and operates a hydro-electric scheme which generates funds that can be used to further the aims of the charity.
At KCDC we decided to use Wordpress as the CMS for our new website largely because it’s so easy to use and has lots of support, advice and guidance available via the Internet. Calico UK were extremely helpful in setting up a development site based on their Supercali Linux service free of charge which enabled KCDC’s enthusiastic amateurs to build the website “in-house”.
The resultant live website makes use of a number of free plugins to extend the built-in capability of Wordpress. In particular, Jetpack provides basic protection and management statistics and Waymark is enabling us to map (and describe) the many, many paths in and around Kingussie - most of which are maintained by KCDC volunteers.
